Will’s Summer Internship Story

Hi, I’m Will and during my penultimate year of University, I began looking at internships as a good way to get real world experience and also get my foot in the door. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew that I wanted to work in a large, multinational corporation as that’s where the strongest career development opportunities lie.

I came across P&G’s internship, and the more I read the more interested I became. I progressed through the recruitment rounds and found myself as an intern for Summer 2014/15 – I couldn’t have been more stoked to get started.

My internship involved working with some of the world’s fastest growing retailers to develop plans that would help them grow P&G’s brands in their stores. What made my internship so rewarding was the depth of experience and the amount of responsibility I had – one day I would be presenting my project proposals to the P&G leadership team for Australian & New Zealand, the next I was flying down to Melbourne to present my plans at one of our customers’ head office.

There is no fetching coffee here – I’d be analysing sales data, designing packaging and meeting with customers and suppliers to make our brands look even better on shelf. How? Can we educate potential Olay consumers with a “touch and learn” display? Is the current Gillette packaging at Costco attracting customers or is it putting them off? These are a couple of examples of day-to-day projects as an intern at P&G.

A P&G internship is so much more than a regular internship – you are given real responsibility and are encouraged to apply what you’ve learnt in a real-world business environment on major brands.
